Our ambition in the Melbourne Center Towers project was to create a narrative through the structure and materials of our high-rise design. The project figuratively expresses the dynamism of a dancer captured in time mid-spin. The exposure of the tower’s steel structural elements is as the raising of a dress, blown by the wind to expose the performer below. The tower changes dynamically while viewed in the round, revealing the interior structural tubing that cantilevers out from within the skin as though it were an outstretched arm. This design study provided room for us to experiment with visual movement as a means for establishing a performance narrative through the body of a building.
